The Story of a Three Day Pass
Like so many Black artists, Melvin Van Peebles exiled himself to Europe to write and direct, but he found racism there too. His portrays a Black American soldier (Harry Baird) who wins a promotion and a 3-day leave, but his idyllic weekend with a lovely Parisian (Nicole Berger of Shoot the Piano Player) turns bitter as people react to seeing the couple.

"HIS DISARMINGLY ROMANTIC DEBUT FEATURE DESERVES A PLACE IN THE CANON."
-A.O. Scott, The New York Times
"This unique bittersweet love story is one of my favorite films from my father. It’s also one of his most personal, and triggered my own passion for filmmaking. I'm thrilled to be collaborating with IndieCollect and the Criterion Collection on this gorgeous new restoration, and to work with Janus Films to bring it back to the screen. Giving audiences the opportunity to discover (or rediscover) it through the lens of today is exciting, and I'm looking forward to the conversations ahead."
-Mario Van Peebles
