Influencia
Set in present-day Mexico City during a pandemic, sixteen-year-old Leonora (Alejandra Cárdenas) lives with her grandmother Olga (Verónica Langer) on the top floor of a project building. Isolated from the outside world for over ten years, Leonora is convinced she is cursed with causing violent deaths in people she looks at face to face. In order to withstand her life in forced seclusion, Leonora has created a magical world around her. This fantasy is shattered, however, when Grandma Olga suddenly disappears. An altercation with a local gangster named “Calacas” (Gerardo Taracena) steers eighteen-year-old Brando (Marco Zapata) into the path of Leonora, who she instantly believes is her urban prince. Thus begins a coming-of-age fairy tale, as the two battle against the evil that surrounds them.
“Unlike anything we have seen before, INFLUENCIA is reminiscent of the early works of the greats David Lynch, Martin Scorsese, and Guillermo Del Toro. The directional debut of Pablo Aura Langer—who was born into a lineage of notable artists in Mexico—brings us a timeless warmhearted story that leaves all a good emotional aftertaste.” ~ Carlos Aimeur, 24-Horas.mx
